Cliquez pour zommer Charroux, Chantelle and St Pourçain

A visit to Charroux in the Bourbonnais, just 40 km from here, promises great charm and character ! The village is famous for its mustard that is used by several great chefs and exported around the world, but this former fortified village and centre of trade has other things to show off too.
Just 7 km from Charroux, lies the village of Chantelle beatifully positioned on top of a rocky outcrop surrounded by the gorges of Bouble.  Former holiday destination for the Ducs de Bourbon, Anne de Beaujeu (oldest daughter of Louis XI) contributed to the improvements of the chateau and the town. It is also the location of the abbey of Saint-Vincent where a community of Benedictines has lived since 1853.

15km further is the town of Saint-Pourçain.  The vineyards of the Saint-Pourçain valley are amongst the oldest of France with their origins in Gallo-Roman times.  Nowadays, the vineyards of St Pourçain cover 600 hectares and 19 villages and it's production has been classed as AOC (appellation d'origine contrôlée).  Follow the wine route to meet the winemakers, there are about 20 independent producers aswell as a collective producer.
